My friend Kevin is getting married in May and since he loved my table-runner-turned-wall-hanging when he was here last September, I decided to make one for him and his lovely bride, April, as a wedding gift.

Since Kevin had to carry it back with him to Shanghai, I opted to go a slightly smaller route than before so he wouldn’t have to buy a new suitcase to bring it back!

Finished, it measures about 12″x18″ and consists of a Merino and Corriedale felted base with a thin layer of silk hankies on top to get that wonderful nubbly texture with a little sheen.

I added felted crochet flowers, hand-made beads, embroidery and silk throwsters waste to finish it off.

Congratulations Kevin & April!! I hope you enjoy it!

A few weeks back I took another fabulous class at The Fiber Studio on making felted table runners (oh crap, Pam just posted the summer class schedule…brb). As I was laying out my first layer of merino and trying to figure out how I would ever be able to keep a felted table runner kitty hair-free, a thought came to me – what about that giant blank wall hanging out over my newly repositioned couch? Voilà! My runner had just turned into a wall hanging.

I used eight colors of merino, two silk hankies and over seven hours of hard labor (which required at least 4 Advils) to make this guy, but he was totally worth it!

Once home, I decided to add a little more textural interest by sewing on some fabric beads I had made a few years back. I didn’t want the beads to take away from the overall feel of the piece, so I tried to position them to blend in as much as possible with the background colors.

I absolutely love the way it turned out. Finally my living room has a bit more color!
